In its 16th year, DFW Restaurant Week has transformed one of the slowest weeks for local restaurateurs into one of the busiest, creating a major charity fundraiser along the way.
Restaurant Week offers a chance for customers to enjoy fixed-price, multi-course meals at some of the finest restaurants in Dallas and Fort Worth. Guests on the most recent broadcast of KRLD 1080 AM’s “Pulse of the City” radio show, sponsored by Dallas law firm Munck Wilson Mandala, described how the weeklong event that began with a handful of restaurants raising $5,000 now boasts more than 125 establishments that contributed more than $760,000 to the North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth last year alone.
North Texas Food Bank CEO Jan Pruitt says the proceeds from Restaurant Week go a long way toward meeting the budget goals for the two groups each year, boosting their efforts to provide for the more than 700,000 North Texas residents — including 282,000 children — who are at risk of going hungry.
Internationally renowned chef Kent Rathbun of Dallas says Restaurant Week is a win-win for all involved by bringing in new business and creating positive exposure in addition to helping deserving charities and needy North Texas residents.
“In the restaurant business very seldom do any of us go to bed hungry,” Mr. Rathburn said. “That’s something I can’t imagine. If we can help people with their lives, I think that’s what it’s all about.”
Reservations are open for this year’s Restaurant Week, and many restaurants fill up quickly. Restaurant Week patrons may choose between a $35 and a $45 fixed-price, multi-course meal, and lunches are $25. Among this year’s participating restaurants are Meso Maya, Dallas Chop House, III Forks, Nick & Sam’s, Abacus, and Fearing’s.
