The Falcon boys’ and girls’ track and field teams had a strong showing at the TAPPS 5A state competition with a small team – less than half the size of most of their competitors. With just five girls and twelve boys competing, both teams won a number of events and ended up placing third overall.

Senior Darrion Daniels started the Falcons’ winning streak at Friday’s field events by winning the shot putt competition with an impressive distance: 54 feet, 7 inches. He followed that up by coming in sixth in the discus.

Junior Mackenzie Frank won the TAPPS 5A State Championship in the girls' high jump with a winning leap of 5 feet, 2 inches high.

Saturday brought more state championship wins to the Falcons.

Senior De'Stini Henderson won first place in 100 meter race, a second in the 200 and another second in the girls’ 4x100 relay

In addition to Frank’s high jump on Friday, Mackenzie won the 100 meter hurdles and then the 300 meter hurdles in high fashion with The Dallas Morning News reporting: "Frank smashed her own record in the 300 hurdles running a 43.68 to far surpass her mark of 45.94 two years ago."

Coach Stephen Guerrero said Mackenzie’s was “One of the best state performances by a track athlete I’ve witnessed: first in three events and state meet records in two events, the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Simply amazing.”

Senior Jared Moser came in second in the 1600 meter race, which he won in the Regional meet the week before. The boys’ team came in third place in the 4x400 meter relay and 6th in the 4x200.

Overall the boys’ and the girls’ teams placed third.

The Falcon boys’ and girls’ track and field teams also had a strong showing at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Meet held at Argyle Liberty Christian School the weekend before the state competition, with the boys coming in second and the girls coming in fourth.

Coach Bell is already thinking about next year. Juniors Joshua Drayden, Xavier Harvey, and Ayaunee Williams greatly contributed to the two teams’ success this year, and sophomores Cassie Garner, Chevin Calloway and Tremayne Bell also made their mark.

These young Falcons are training for the future, running to win, ready to soar.
